Default Mid 90's Pontiac Grand Prix vs 2001 Camaro Z28

So I was just coming back from visiting family and friends, I had my sister in the front seat and my brother in the back seat of my Camaro, the three of us together probably weigh over 500 lbs. I was going through downtown, hitting all the stop lights, the light turns green an an older mid 90's model Grand Prix from behind floors it and zooms past me. I could tell right away he was trying to show off, and wanted a piece of my LS1. The next light I trailed a little behind and did the same thing, basically a ricer fly by, mostly so he could hear my car.

I waited till we got to a stop light that had a long straight away with no lights for a mile. Once we got to that light I put it in neutral, gave it a few good revs up to 4,000 RPM or so. I knew full well that even with the added weight I could smoke his car. Anyway, light turned green and he peels out in his FWD car, flooring it, WOT and all. I put it in drive, and gently tap the gas, in line with all the other casual drivers. I didn't think he was really worth the tire tread I would burn smoking his ***. Plus, I know what a fool you feel like when you peel out and the other guy flat out denies racing you. Made my brother and sister laugh pretty hard. Wish I had gotten it on video.

so no actual race?
was the body squarish or rounded?
with the right mods, the gtp version could give you a good run

Well, I failed to mention that on one of the stop lights we both floored it, and I pulled away nice and clean, but it wasn't an even match up, we didn't line up next to each other or anything, not a real fair race at all. It was a rounded Grand Prix GT, so it had the standard 3.8 with 200HP. The car looked very old and unkempt though, scratches, chunks of missing paint, dull head lights, etc.

While the GTP is a respectable car for a V6, it would have to be pretty well modified to run with an LS1. Stock vs stock, a GTP would have done better than this poor GT, and I actually would have raced it, alas...it was nothing but a poor and beaten up old 3.8, not worth the gas I used revving up at him.

i owned a 3.8 (and still do) but when i had a decent setup before the cam i went toe to toe with an 09 G8 GT. then with the cam it was at a 12.5 1/4 or so.

This is the same thinking that has gotten a lot of cocky near stock cars in trouble vs my car. Sometimes, the cover lies about the book

Either way nice kill OP.

I had a 99 gp gt. ZZP turbo, fmic, zzp heads, and cam. They can be fast. But it sounds like this one was stock. Here's a pic before intercooler.

Very true. A lot of people will keep that ugly and dirty look, makes it a perfect sleeper. But usually you can tell by the sound of a car what, if anything it's running. A supercharger you can usually hear, unless they kept the stock airbox, then it's very quiet. But a stock GTP wouldn't be too much of a challenge. You can hear a turbo, hear headers, hear a cam, and hear nitrous. Most of the big power adders you can tell before you race it. Still wouldn't change my mind about racing though. If I lose, I lose. I have been humbled by a few cars before that I thought wouldn't put up much of a fight.

If you ran a 12.5 with a 3.8, that's a damn good time. And you shouldn't be running toe to toe with a G8 GT, you should be smashing those cars, unless the G8 was modified. In stock form the G8 is a mid to high 13 second car.

Those sc 3800's can sneak up on you.. I had one pull on me in a little 40-75 pull so I was thinking damn.. It took doing a 40-100 pull to come back around. So with your mods dont be surprised to have one actually pull on you and stay ahead.

That grand prix would have probably whooped you off the line

you'd need to get to 100+ to catch up

You're joking with me right? It was a FWD 3.8, with 200HP. And it was old and beat to ****. IF I wanted to waste my gas racing that old P.O.S. he would have been behind by one car before I crossed the stop light, by 60 he'd be 4 car lengths behind EASILY! I know how much faster a Camaro is than a FWD 3.8. My last car was a 2003 Monte Carlo SS, FWD with the 3.8 V6, going from that to my 5.7 Camaro, I know the differences very well. Camaro would stomp it, easily.

Cocky? I know my car's potential. A 310HP car vs a 200HP car? That's not being cocky, that's knowing the facts. Now if I was racing an equally powered car, that would be a different story. And what exactly is a "slowmare"?

It's fast enough for me. And fast enough to beat most common street cars out there. I don't need to see low 1/4 mile times to be happy, 13's, maybe high 12's is good enough for me.

Neither is your neon, bro. Apparently you're self-projecting here because of your lame attempt at trolling.

My bad I misread the OP, thought it was the supercharged L67 engine in that one...

Yea the normal 3.8 is slow...well so is the s/c but if modded can be quick
