I HAVE A 86 454 BB THATS BEEN BORED 30 OVER WITH 12:1 DOME PISTONS 292 COMP CAM WITH A 2800 STALL AND A HOLLEY DOMINATOR INTAKE W/A 750 CFM HOLLEY. I JUST RECENTLY HAD TO CHANGE OUT MY LIFTED BECAUSE SOME OF THEM CAME APART ALONG WITH INSTALLING A NEW ACCEL HEI PERFORMANCE DISTRIBUTOR. ONCE BACK TOGETHER I STARTED HAVING COOLING ISSUES. I LIVE IN SAVANNAH GA. IF I GO A MILE DOWN THE STREET THE ENGINE WILL GET UP TO 230 DEGREES. SO I WENT AND REPLACE THE WATER PUMP AND THE THERMOSTAT WITH A 180 DEGREE AND THE RADIATOR. I DROVE IT AND STILL THE SAME ISSUES. I HAVE A FLEX A LITE 1000 SERIES FAN WITH A SHROUD. I ALSO NOTICED THAT MY BREATHER FILTERS ARE PUFFING SMOKE WHEN I FIRST START THE ENGINE. AS THE ENGINE WARMS MY OIL PRESURE GOES FROM 60LBS TO 9LBS. I WENT BACK AND REINSTALLED THE STOCK HEI DISTRIBUTOR AND LEARNED THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VACUUME ADVANCE ON THE ACCEL DISTRIBUTOR. I SET THE TIMING AT 14 DGREES. I BUILT THIS ENGINE IN 2008 AND HAVE NEVER HAD THESE ISSUES. THIS ALL STARTED WHEN I DECIDED TO UPGRADE THE HEI DISTRIBUTOR. I HAD ISSUES WITH THE DISTRIBUTOR SO I CHECKED MY VALVES AND WHEN I ADJUSTED THEM AND CAME BACK TO RECHECK THEM THEY KEPT CHANGING. CAME SOMEONE HELP. MY CONCERNS ARE:

1 WHY IM HAVING COOLING ISSUES NOW?
2 WHY MY BREATHER FILTERS ARE SMOKING FROM INITIAL START NEVER DID IT BEFORE.

3 WHY MY OIL PRESURE IS DROPPING AS IT WARMS UP?

Did u say the lifters came apart ? And u replaced the but did u replace the cam also ?

What issues with the vacuum advance? If it's retarded it will make heat. First thing to check when looking for overheating problems is if the radiator is getting too hot or if it's just the engine. Changes the troubleshooting procedure. Easy test is to spray a LITTLE water on the cold side of the radiator, the side with the cap, and see if it boils.

As far as the oil pressure is concerned. I changed my hei for an msd and it somehow loosened my oil pump stud. I know this wasn't a previous issue due to unbuilt the motor 6 months prior and never had oiling issues. Then all of a sudden. High pressure when cold. Low when hot??? Don't know how. But it happened. O arp stud at that
