Default Hot Rod Magazine Turbo Test

I just got the new September issue of HotRod and they use a 5.3L in this months story of cheap ebay turbo power.

Long story short -

Sent heads to TEA for a stage 1 job
Stock original bottom end including bearings and a large rust spot in cylinder #7
Opened top ring gap by filing the stock ring from .015 to .028
Comp 228/230 .571/.573 112 cam and springs
Fast 102 intake and throttle body.
American Racing 1 7/8 headers

They are claiming to have a base line of 451 hp 380 lb ft. I thought that was alittle high but its not like this is the first time a lsx has turned out big numbers.

Boosted with 76mm turbos and a pair of 45mm wastegate they produced oveer 600 hp at 7 psi.

15 psi over 900 Hp
They dont show every power and boost numbers but ended up at 26.8 PSI and 1,203 Hp!!!

Is this total B.S. or what? Why would Hot Rod lie about it?

Then the real kicker. They pull the oil pan off to check into it and find that the crank has a part# 12553482 and say that is is actually a 4.8L!!!! WTF!!!

My only reason to doubt it other then the obvious power numbers is that they say they had TEA put 2.0 in intake valves in. I thought those wouldn't clear the bore.

Its not on the website yet but the HEMI and Ford Article is. Same concept - cheap junkyard engine - turbo till it blows.

People put 243/799 and 317 heads on 4.8/5.3Ls all the time, and they come with factory 2.00/1.55 valves. The Aluminum 5.3L L33 engine comes from GM with 799 heads.

They new the moment the heads came off and saw flat top pistons, instead of a small dish. 4.8 = flat top.......5.3=dish, about a 10 sec search for anyone thinking about buying one.
