Default TSP 1 7/8 vs Kooks 1 7/8

I am looking to get headers and a y pipe very soon, but am trying to decide whether TSP 1 7/8 will provide very comparable gains to the kooks 1 7/8 headers.

The car will be supercharged with the vortech v-9 g-trim kit, if that makes any difference in producing horsepower through the headers.

Please tell me your experience with what you guys are running. It is just that TSP with a nice merge collector y pipe is significantly cheaper than Kooks headers with crappy ORY. BUT, does that few hundred dollars saved mean I will see much of a horsepower difference?

Thanks guys

I don't have any proof but I wouldn't think their would be any power difference between them. I have the TSP ones and I'm happy with them.

Yes our headers have been proven to provide very nice gains. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to call me at the office in the morning or send me a pm.

Are the 1 7/8s header designs all straight primary pipe or are any of them stepped to 2 inch before the collector?

I believe the TSP and the Kooks are both stainless.

The TSPs used to be coated. The first run of stainless I thought had not even come out yet....

I will definitely give you guys a call soon. Do you have any information regarding comparisons with kooks 1 7/8 headers by chance?

Ah, you may be right. I am reading their site now and it doesn't clearly state whether they are coated or stainless either way.

Edit: "Manufactured using flash-controlled 16-gauge carbon steel tubing" and "Steel head flanges are quality-manufactured to insure a precise fit"

Thanks for posting up pics badss. Our current 1 7/8s longtubes are not stepped. Our previous run was a ceramic coated version, and the new 1 7/8s headers will be polished stainless.

So if I ordered, say, now, would they be the polished stainless ones? And what is exactly meant by "stepped"? Sorry I could just go google it, but if you can answer it along with my previous question in this post that would be great.

^^^and I'm patiently awaited their arrival. The will dominate the 1 7/8 stainless market.

There are no more coated versions. They are sold out. The next production run will be stainless but there is no 100% arrival date but expected mid month per TSP. So crossing our fingers for 2 weeks out.

Alright, that's almost perfect timing. Still saving a little bit more (2-3 weeks more) to finish buying everything I need before I start modding.

Doing: Lid, P&P TB, LS6 Intake Manifold, upgraded injectors, upgraded fuel pump, v-9 g-trim supercharger, 1 7/8 headers, ory, magnaflow catback, sfc and possibly 3.73s.

Then a nice dyno tune to top it off.

Buying TSP's new stainless steel headers will be great, however, unless they build a stainless y pipe to match them its pointless. Unless you buy their headers and fit something like an ARH y to it. Just my .02

Still, their ORY only runs $130 and it appears to be constructed very well with a nice merge collector. If I end up having to replace it down the road, so be it. Maybe by then they will have a stainless one to upgrade to

I'm not saying it isn't constructed well. What I'm saying is do it right the first time. Get a stainless y. If tsp builds a stainless y that's matched that's great. If not, oh well. And at $130 now, and two or three years from now, at around the same price again for another one.... Is not so cheap when you do it twice.

How are you TSP owners liking the fit of your coated headers? I've got Kooks and LOVE the fit.... it's PERFECT!

If the TSP are too, I'll go with TSP for my 1 7/8 headers.

I could give a **** less about the Y-pipe.... custom built is the way to go anyway!
