It's a plug.
Many applications use the same compressors & some have a high pressure switch mounted there.
The compressor you have there has no switch, just a plug.

if by plug you mean compressor control valve, then yea, youd be right...

its your compressor control valve. the v7 compressor is a 7 piston variable displacement compressor. the valve in question regulates the displacement of the compressor depending on the cooling load applied to it..

if you have any other questions, the hex bolt on the other side is a fill plug. the tall hex bolt with the hole in the center on the back, next to where the high and low side lines go in, is a high pressure blow off valve. prevents the system from exploding , that compressor can get up to 300 psi pretty easily so you could imagine its necessity..
