This is the first time I've pulled the tranny. Needless to say I had to drain it, I did this the hard way as most of it ended up all over the garage floor.

I was wondering what the capacity is on the t-56, I thought I read somewhere that its 4 quarts, is this correct? Also what brand/type of fluid is used?

dextron 3 is what i used.

Been doing some more reading/searching, it seems the capacity is 3.8 quarts, can I just dump 4 in and be done with it or will .2 of a quart make a difference?

Just open the fill plug and fill it till it start coming out the fill hole

All I can find locally is castrols dex/merc fluid will this suffice. It says it's for pre 05 gm automatics?

just dump 4qts in through the shifter hole. i run royal purple and have also had good luck from mobil 1 atf

Any Dex III ATF will work. Add fluid until it starts to come out of the fill hole.

GM Synchromesh fill to over flow.

Redline ATF in my transmission.

Unbolt the fill plug on the drivers side of the tranny and dump all 4 quarts down the shifter opening. Bolt the fill plug back in place once the .2ish quarts finishes spilling out.
