Default LS1 No spark

2000 Trans Am

Fresh motor. Put everything together and there is no spark. Checked all plugs and grounds. Checked the volts at the ignition relay and its 12. I have swapped the crank sensor and still nothing. I am hesitant to try the cam sensor because its hard to reach. What are my options here?

Did you check the hookups on the starter itself?

I actually got it to fire. I had missed two ground wires on the back of the head. But now, my volts vary a lot. I have a scan tool and the can go anywhere from 12.7 volts to 14. Sometimes it will start, but if I leave it to sit for a few minutes, I have to bump-start it. I don't think its the alternator, because the car will stay running without the battery. Any ideas?

Disconnecting the battery will not tell you much of anything because the computer will command full field on the alternator and that can be bad for the PCM, it senses battery voltage and if its not present it can spike the alternator output up to 18 volts bad news
