New LS1 Owners - Newbie Tech - First time drag racing...SES light

Took my car to the track for the first time today. 2000 Camaro z28. lid. slp catback. Low mileage(53k). Anyway, on my second run I grabbed 1st instead of third.:bang: I was quick back on the clutch so it didn't rev sky high, but it did catch long enough to wheel hop. Anyway, the car surprisingly felt fine, I think I got lucky. I wasn't content to go home with a 55mph timeslip so I ran again. I noticed on the next pull that the SES light came on. Three runs later as I lifted at the end i got a low traction light, followed by ABS inop. A little pissed off at this point, I kept going and ran a 13.978 @ 104.16. Considering there was a noob driving, i'd have to say the car was running fairly well to post that time. So, is this all coincidence, or did I hurt something.

Another note: In preparation for today i cleaned my maf, which did make the car noticeably richer on the low end (blasting the crap off with electronic cleaner did wonders for my throttle response). Could a slight mixture change and a few WOT pulls trigger a code with a rear 02 or something? Just a theory.

Go to autozone or any parts store... they'll scan & clear for free.

Exactly. But then again anyone with an OBD car should have a scanner as part of their toolbox anyway...

^They're pretty expensive though... atleast the ones that can clear codes. Some can only read 'em.

Damn, I'd be pist but it's prolly minor. But you should've went to Autozone to find out right away what it is while you wait.

Very true statement. I got mine from O'Rielly auto parts for $200. The thing is awesome.

If you have a Harbor Freight store in your area, you can get an OBD-I/II scanner there for around $30.00. I have one, and it's all I had before I got a Predator. It only shows the code itself, no description, but it does clear them, and I never ran across a code I couldn't just punch into Google and find a detailed description. Even if you don't have a Harbor Freight nearby you can order it off their website.

^ Any internal engine components won't throw a ABS light...
Sounds like you may have knocked on of your abs sensors silly with the wheel hop. Check to make sure the wheel sensors are still connected, and the control module isn't messed up externally/unplugged.
Is your tcs button functional?

You could have done a few different things to it, but get the scanner and see what tripped. As for Autoscum and other stores, they read the code but sometimes refuse to clear it and its happends more then one time and if I am trying to chase down something. I'd rather have my tool with me.

I have made the ABS/TC upset one time but I did not get an SES light. When I restarted the car, everthing was fine. If it was an ABS light, it should have cleared.

I also did basically the same thing once and did not hurt anything.

I just politely ask them if they will let me clear it and they always just hand it to me....

Got the scanner today. One thing I neglected to mention before was I have a fan manual overide switch. Its something idk much about because it was installed by the previous owner of the car and he never even mentioned it when I bought the car. I literally just found the switch about a month ago, and I really only used for the first time at the track. The code was a fan control module failure. Thanks for the responses and sorry to waste your time.

BTW amazon.com has the ElmScan 5 Compact USB OBD-II Scan Tool for $30. It plugs into the computer, scans codes and can clear them, as well as data logging and other stuff. idk why anyone would have to pay $200 for a scan tool. If you have a laptop, what I've got is great.
