Default Just got a 2002 WS6, have questions

Well, first off my heads are stamped 853. From what I understand they don't belong on my car, do they? What are they from?

Where can I locate the vin on my block??

How can you tell if you have an ls6 intake?

Also, my transmission has a "wine" guy I got the car from said it has always done that. But idk if I should be scared?

Last but not least, where can I find one of those front bumper license plate covers that has the firebird on it? Mine is missing. Thanks guys

Those heads are from a 98. You have perimeter bolt valve covers as well, yea? 02 should have center bolt covers and 241s.

Block numbers are hard to read, do a search for methods. Easiest is while on a lift.. if not mirror can be used.

Does the intake have a hose going into the top on the front middle? What is the part number?

The whine is probably coming from the rear. Are you sure its the trans? Ten bolts are notorious for gear whine after a few hard launches.

Search the classified section in here and ebay.

853s are not from a '98. 1998 received 806 heads and perimeter bolt valve covers.

853 heads will have center bolt valve covers, and were used on '99 and most '00 cars (some very late '00 cars received 241s, just like the '01-'02 cars).

It also appears that you have an LS1 intake, with a visible EGR tube. This is not correct for a '02 car either. Someone may have swapped in an entire engine from a '99-'00 car.

Our cars do not have the cars vin on the block instead its just a block casting number which wont tell you much about the block other than its an ls1/ls6 block if your motor is actually an 02. I'd change out that ls1 intake for an ls6 not only would it be correct for the car but you maybe losing out on a good bit of power with the ls1 intake on there.

BUMP! I want to see how this turns out.

The 2001 and 2002 LS1's should come with an LS6 intake, but like above posted, may be an engine swap from an older F-body.

Great VIN decoder site to see what your car came with from the factory.

Things like an LS6 intake and other engine changes throughout the model years will not show up on that site.

The RPO "LS1" is all you will see in terms of an engine specific code, whether it's a '98 or an '02 (assuming V8 car). Things like camshaft profile changes, head casting numbers, PCV system changes, LS6 intake, exhaust manifold changes, injector size changes, etc., are not shown by RPOs.

Oh, it was worth a try. I do know that RPO site shows what gears your car has. Learned from that site that my car has the 2.73's.

Perhaps it was really a 99 and not a 02??
