Default stongest yet lightest driveshaft???

What is everyone's opinion for the strongest yet lightest driveshaft? I am running a LSX 4xx forged motor with 2 stages of direct port nitrous thru a 4L80 to a moser 9". I am making somewhere around 800 to 900 rwhp if I would have to guess. I do leave on a transbrake and this car is mostly a drag car. Any ideas?

Carbon fiber! I got one and its waay lighter than aluminum and is suppose to handle 1000 rwhp easy. They aren't cheap though, if you want to save money go with an iron one. It isn't gonna be light though, but it should handle anything you throw at it.

Yeah I run a steel driveshaft now, but am looking to shed some more weight off the car.

The PST 3.5" aluminum driveshaft isn't going to be the lightest, but it is a very good compromise between cost, strength and weight. Here is a link to it. http://shop.brutespeed.com/PST-3-1-2...Driveshaft.htm Bob

I have been real happy with my PST Carbon fiber drive shaft and Eric just recently put one in his Top Sportman car as well. Nice units for sure and I think I saves around 13 pounds from my Strange C/M unit using the same C/M yoke.

Minus weight savings I didn't see any gain how ever, I'm not sure if Eric seen any gains with his.

Biggest concern and in all honesty should be a concern with all drive shafts is to be careful when jacking the vehicle up and letting the rear end hang. Most drive shafts this diameter will come into contact with the D/S loop. Letting it do so is not good with any drive shaft no matter what material it is but especially with a carbon fiber one.

Have any questions let me know.

Just a data point for you: my PST 3.75" CF driveshaft clears a standard, bolt-in BMR driveshaft safety loop when the rear end is under full droop. Made me a bit nervous the first time I tried it, but it definitely clears, and by a fair amount. I made double sure to check, though, because I don't think it would have handled it very well if there was interference.

I thought if you have a CF driveshaft you do not need a D/S loop. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You technically shouldn't need one due to how they fail, but trying to convince a track official would likely not go in your favor.

MeentSS02 pretty much hit the nail on the head. I don't recall if the rules state that a carbon fiber shaft does not specifically but it does state you need a drive shaft loop. So most tracks will make you have one no matter what shaft is in the car. I have a carbon fiber shaft and they still always ask me if I have a drive shaft safety loop.

I'm gonna keep looking cause I remember in a car mag a long time ago that the nhra rules allowed no D/S for CF driveshafts but so far this is what I got from the nhra rules (but I"m sure most of you already knew this):

Driveshaft loop required on all cars running
13.99 (*8.59) or quicker and utilizing slicks; except vehicles running
11.49 (*7.35) seconds or slower equipped with street tires

I know I have seen quite a few twisted yokes with the pst aluminum shafts probly only m6 I can think of. I would think it be wise to upgrade to a MW yoke and know its good to go. But I am still running the yoke that came with my pst shaft with no issues. If I had a little extra $$ I would upgrade the yoke. There no such thing as overkill.

I always run the Strange C/M yoke. Good price and heck I think I have had it in three different cars now on three different drive shafts.

I have a PST Carbon shaft with a Strange CM yoke. Got it directly from PST since we are a dealer for them. Really a nice shaft to be honest.
