Went to Norwalk for the Pontiac Nationals and after making a few 12.0 passes and one 11.99 on motor during a track rental on Thursday I decided to put the bottle in and make a couple of runs. First with 35N/22F jets it went 11.59 at 115 and then with 62N/38F jets it went 10.958 at 122. Was not a perfect pass, spun a little and the nitrous was cutting out due to the high rpm cutoff on the FJO controller set too low but I'm still happy with a 10 second pass on a day with da that put me 4 tenths off my n/a best :)

They said they don't know which issue yet but since they just more or less finished Dec '11 that its safe to say it won't be till next year.

Damn, congrats Steve, great racing! Car looks good on the vid, what kinda nitrous set-up do you have? I have a basic kit laying around but haven't had the guts to put it on. What shot are you running?

Thanks :) and thanks for your help on Thursday with the 10mm wrench, always seems like I forget something lol That sucked that the nitrous didn't work for the shootout, and going red sucks to but you went like 3 or 4 rounds each day which isn't bad.

Thanks, I've got a Nitrous Outlet 78mm plate kit on it with an FJO controller. I was a little gun shy about hitting it too but after talking with Rick about his setup I figured pull some timing and give it a try. The 11.59 pass was a 50 shot, the 10.95 pass was a 150 shot. Would be cool to run again at atco and make another side by side pass on the bottle :)

Hey Steve check out these pictures http://www.pontiacnationals.com/ (let pictures scroll)looks like it was pretty hot!!! It was cool to hear you won it all I was kidding around with your daughter about her Dad putting everyone on trailer and making them leave since they was only ones left in your area in pit.I'm not to disapointted we mostly show car and only race at nats in Norwalk every year just to see what she'll do and after the electical issues with nitrous then having to replace alternator feel lucky to go as far as I did with everything that was going on.(thought I'd be sitting when wouldn't start saturday morning)

Congrats on the 10.95!! Do you know what you pulled your timing back to?? 23?24? Were you running 93?

Yup 93 pump gas and I run 26 timing n/a so I followed the 2 for every 50hp rule and dropped timing to 20. I met a guy who had a 7 second a first gen firebird nitrous car at the event and after looking at the plugs and talking it over I need to spend more time tuning it cause it looks like it needs a bit more timing or a little less fuel (or some combination of the two). I'm still new to running nitrous and am trying to learn, hoping any mistakes I make while learning dont cost me a motor.

Congrats on the fun you had and your 10.95 pass.

If you are not doing the following then you will not be getting a correct reading of the plugs. They need to be new and you need to have very little idle time. Burn out, stage and race at the top end of the track when you cross the finish line you must shut the car down and coast off the track. Take one or two plugs out at the top end of the track and put in extra plugs to get back to the pits. Reading the plugs using this method is the only way to get the tune spot on!

Good luck and be safe!

Thanks for the advice N2, quick question explain shutting down at the top end. I've had people say they kill the motor wot and go to neutral, is that right and safe for the car? I want the car to run well on nitrous, and more importantly not hurt anything, so I'm willing to do what needs to be done but that said I put a few hundred passes on the car a year and of those I'd bet no more than 20 will be nitrous runs. So I want to make sure I do things the best I can to get the most info on those runs to tune in the right direction.

If your car is manual just shift into neutral and cut off car just after finish line as you are letting off the gas. If your car is a A4 shift into neutral and cut off car. Where it gets tricky is when you have an A3 auto with RMVB. Hope this helps and remember do not turn key to far and lock the column.

Good luck and be safe!
