Default Help removing egr valve

I need help it seems the egr valve are a pita to deal with on these lt1s especially the 93s. I checked to see if my egr valve was working with a pump and it was not holding suction/pressure. I am getting ready to smog the car so I need to find a way to take this crap off and put a new one on.

Just out of curiosity before I try taking it off, is there any other way to test that it really works?
Any ideas on how to remove these?

It's just two bolts. You have to reach back there and feel around and work blindly, but it will come off just fine.

Are you getting any codes to suggest that the EGR isn't working?

Well there is no engine light on, is there a way to check for a code on my 93 to see if the engine light is on? Do i use the two wire way to connect it and see what code it gives me?

That's fine - that's what is supposed to happen. Doesn't sound like you have a problem with the valve itself.

This page will help you further:

Read the image again concerning code 12.

If you have no SES lights and the engine stumbles when you depress the EGR valve all signs point to the system working properly.

If the valve won't hold vacuum, it will never work. Manually pressing on the valve, resulting in engine RPM change tells you the ports are not clogged up. Still, if the valve will not open with vacuum, you need a new one. Whether that is something they can catch on a smog test, IDK.
