Default unsafe oil pressure

can your oil pressure ever get too high. my car idles around 40 psi and when i really get on it around 4k rpm the oil pressure can get almost 80 psi. i know high oil pressure is good but can it get too high?

To answer your question, yes you can have too much oil pressure, but understand this: your stock gauge is not very accurate, and bleed off valves are often set in the 70 psi range, meaning your 80 you are seeing could in-fact be 70 which is showing the pump is working correctly. When pressure reaches the maximum set point, the bleed off opens and lets the oil bypass the pump so pressure cannot go any higher. Bleed offs can open early, dumping off pressure too soon or late/not at all. Sounds like yours is fine.

get an accurate gauge, like and autometer if your really concerned about it. while your in there id grab a temp gauge because those are super misleading.
