I'm curious of how far off a stock Z06 is compared to an LS1 stick car. Any real world input would be helpful. I've considered modding my SS alittle and keeping it but I'm seeing some nice Z06's so cheap lately I've considered just trading up but I'd like a very noticable differance in cars.

ZO6 vettes run real good for what they are. I believe they can trap about 120 stock. That's better then a lot of/most cam only LS1s f-bodies. It would still be harder to launch them though being as they have the IRS.

Ya, I'm kind of surprised at some of the prices I'm seeing on them. $20-22K with 25-30,000 miles. Thats pretty cheap considering F-body SS/WS-6 cars are pulling $15K with 50,000 miles. I really love having heads up display too. I don't get why more cars don't come with that option.

- The average shade tree mechanic and acutally work on a 4th Gen Fbody where as a C5 almost in the majority of situations require a car lift.
- The "C5 Surcharge" everything for a Corvette is automatically more expensive to buy. That includes parts specific to the C5 such as IRS components, torque tubes.
- Z06 Spec'ed C5's are lighter, and have a closer ratio transmission the M12 (google it)
- Duribility: Both have their weakness and can be broken easily but it really depends on the driver so I would say they are both equal but in the end the C5 will cost more for the same exact amount of work and parts. Its not uncommon to see not only the TQ tube to go, but the trans and IRS one shot if it damage it bad enough.
- Racing: You need to define what you do, each has their advantages and can be done for less $$$. C5's are not the easiest to race in 6 speed form. Racing 6 speed cars will be very costly. See: C5 Surcharge
These are just a few things. I think looks and appearence is based on the owner. Every car is going down in value. There are some 98's that are clean going for 4-6k automatic which in reality can be made very fast for little money and spank z06's so its a constant struggle.
