Default 98 z28 with a blown motor!

Just bought my 2nd ls1 car this year! its a red 98 z28 that has a bad knocking. car only has 101xxx miles. im 18 years old and work for JP's muscle cars in monroe ga. We are a muscle car salvage yard and i take these cars apart daily so i feel comfortable replacing the engine. I only have $2400 in the car so far.

im on a tight budget and would love any advice tips tricks to help me get my car on the road! im up for all options. 5.3 6.0 or ls1's. im looking to get the car running and driving for under $3400 total on the car.
so my question to you guys is what engines would workin my car with the parts i have and having to do the least modifications with my budget!

A 4.8, 5.3, 5.7, or 6.0 Gen 3 motor will drop right in and everything will bolt up. Truck blocks (not the 5.7) will be cheaper because of quantity available.

Yes you would need a tune. Mail order tune would get you close for sure seeing as it would be a bone stock motor.

6.0 is hard to pass up but in your business im sure you can find a gto, vette or f car 5.7 cheap. Goodluck, im jealous!! Good lookin car to DD.

Swapping in another LS1 from a F body would be most ideal. I would aim for another 1998 Motor due to the PCM, I would research in the PCM section as the tune is different due to the limitations on the 98 PCM's

I am not expert on why, I know they have limitations and not sure if really any sensors changed. I know the cam is different but thats to get the car to 100% perfect.
