from what i could gather and here being said to the cops.
the old man was bumping into the dragster because he didn't realize it was there and he thought it was just some sort of bump. he kept trying to get over it and eventually the dragster pulled forward and the 75 yr old man driving the car hit the gas at the same time. it scared and he went to hit the brake but hit the gas instead of the brake

The track is more worried about people not wearing proper safety gear. They should be checking how drunk the people making passes are. The hauling *** in the pitts is gonna lead to some one getting hurt. They need to make some big safety changes out there.

guy didnt see him, accidently bumped him, and the bump sent his foot further into the gas pedal.
i was also told that the dragster driver was just trying to earn his license and had only made 1 pass in the car prior to that.
