Have a 2001 T/A with the v-8 and auto transmission. I believe it's the 4L60E. Anyhow, I can drive the car using manual shift and accel/decel in 1st and 2nd gear. When I move the shifter to 3rd the tranny changes, but the engine just rev's up, no pull. Any thoughts on what might be wrong, checked the fluid already. Is this something that can be resolved without removing the trans?

3-4 clutches are wiped out.Time for a rebuild.

Unfortunately your transmission has lost the 3/4 clutches. There is not much you can do now except manage the repairs wisely. Be sure to have a reputable builder go through it so that you do not have this issue again anytime soon.
