Exclamation WTH is This...

And could it be causeing my friends car from starting/running?

My friends car about a month or so ago was having problems. It would start up fine, then warm up; and then fall flat on its face. It wouldnt start up again until the car had the chance to cool off. Today he texts me saying that he was playing around with his car and came across that piece thats pictured. He said he would move it and the car would startup, and if he hit it it would shut off.. Does anyone know what that part is? the cars a 93' auto camaro. Thanks

I don't remember seeing that putting mine back together. But it's a 95. Try shoebox.

I have that same box thing, its supposed to be there but tapped closer to the harness. Maybe only 93 cars came with them.

Thats what im thinking. I own a 94' so i never ran into that piece before. I also noticed that the plug for his ICM is backwards from the one on shbox for the opti-test. Meaning that the 2 inner and 2 outter ones were backwards!

If thats the case then could that be causing the car to die out?

Yeah its fun owning a 93 car, everything about it is different then the rest... I doubt it would cause the car to not start, you check the ICM and fuel pressure already?

It is a filter for the tach used only on '93 models. I don't think it can cause a starting issue.

fuel pressures perfect, icm has been replaced aong with the coil. When the car dies the icm doesnt get power. (usually a dead opti) but my friend said that this little box would kill the car when he distrupted it

It must be the tach filter that only 93s have. That's the first time I have seen one, LOL. After looking at the schematic, it seems possible it could have an effect on power to the coil if it was grounding out internally. If moving it around affects the engine, then I would say your trouble is right there (either in the wiring or that filter).

Thank you so much for the response. So it Could be affecting everything. Where could i go about getting a replacement? Or is there a wiring diagram on it that i might be able to check and see if its working properly? Thanks again

They don't make them anymore, haven't heard of any problems from it other than people swapping instrument clusters and the tach not working.

Alos this is the ICM part number I got from advance auto CBE30P. Working fine for me for almost 2 years.

From the looks of this, you could bypass the filter with a jumper and see what happens. The tach might not work the same tho.

Well cutting the wires to the tach filter (got frustrated) didnt do anything. This might just be me hopeing that it isnt the opti... But deep down i have a very strong feeling that it is.
