Default Polishing factory Z28 exhaust tips?

Is it possible to polish up the factory Z28 rectangle tips? My tips are all covered with soot and crud, and just look horrible. If I can clean and polish them, how would y'all recommend I go about it?

Yeah, any metal can be polished. It will take some work though. I'd start with 600 grit sandpaper and wetsand them. Then move up 800, 1000, 1500 then 2000. After that you can use your metal polish.

Ok, I'll try the sanding method.

@demon, I'm trying to make it look better with out spending any money. A cat back is in my near future so buying new tips for the factory system would be a waste.

Unless I'm mistaken, I don't think the factory rectangular tips are stainless steel. I've seen some rusted up pretty bad. So unless you plan on maintaining them on a daily basis after polishing, it would be a lot of work and hassle. You might want to spray them with some high temp clear coat after you're done.

Ok, so I went out and sanded them down today. They're aluminum I'm pretty sure. Here's a before and after shot:

They're still pretty rough. I'll sand them a little smoother, and then polish them up and clear coat them. They're already a lot better than stock black and haven't cost me anything since I already had the supplies laying around.

Cat-backs are a waste, just buy Tips and a muffler to replace the on you have.
