Better cam choice for a 3K stall auto.
Which cam of these two would work better with a 3K stall Yank Thruster?
TSP 228R or a TSP 233/239? ( I want a pretty low LSA though, I want this car to lope pretty nasty)
Car has LT's, SLP LM, Lid, filter, SLP MAF, and of course the LS6 intake from the 02's.
Car is a DD but only about 5 miles so drivability is not a huge issue. I plan on getting the car street tuned here locally. Dyno numbers are not a huge issue, but I would like to see 50-60 RWHP gain.

Also do you think the 228R with a 111lsa will offer any significant hurdles drivability wise? I really want the lope of the lower lsa, but I still want it fairly streetable. Maybe I am askign for too much.

I agree, but the converter I was looking at is the Yank Thruster 3K stall for 545$. To go with a bigger stall yank I am looking at having to step up to the superstock series and they are 725$. The savings may be worth it to me. I am not trying to spend a **** ton of money on this car it's just my DD pile of junk.

I agree, but the converter I was looking at is the Yank Thruster 3K stall for 545$. To go with a bigger stall yank I am looking at having to step up to the superstock series and they are 725$. The savings may be worth it to me. I am not trying to spend a **** ton of money on this car it's just my DD pile of junk.

I am not sure it is a fair comparison because I have a 6.0 and my intake has a fatter low RPM torque curve than the EFI intakes, but I really like my Circle D 2b 3000 RPM converter. With my 222/224 cam, I put down high 1.6 60 foot times. In my opinion that is great for a true street car. While one can get faster 60' times at the track with a bigger converter, on the street I would speculate that all you would get is more wheel spin. Are you planning on a lot of track time or just street driving?

yeah like people on here are saying with a 3k stall you want the smaller cam. sure your leaving hp on the table with the larger cam but it won't be usable power with that stall. you will always be a little out of the powerband with a big cam and a lower stall. now if you had a 4k stall.....get the ms3 or v3 and be done with it! thats the way i would go but that's my opinion. it will be a load of difference than a 224r and a 3k stall. do you want more of a stock drivability or do you wanna sacrifice just a bit of that to really feel some power?
plus i don't think you are going to see 60 rwhp gain with a 224r or 228r. you need something with a little more duration and lift. your looking more at like 40 rwhp right now with the smaller setup

Circle D is a very very good brand. Just as good as yank and better than most others imo. Alot of huge HP guys are running Circle D converters. I would say you want atleast a 3k converter for a 224r though. Im going with a 228r with my 3400 converter and wish I would have went with the 3600 for that cam. I am very very happy with my stall though.

224r with a yank 3600 ss. It drives very much like stock with the 3.23 gears. Maybe just a little bit on the loose side for a true dd. But I honestly don't notice it much. Its never been to the track. But I've dragged ms3 and trex cammed cars from stoplight to stoplight. Lots of fun.

And if I read the circle D rundown on that convertor they claim it stalls between 3k-3200.

I kept at least a car and a half lead on them, they weren't gaining any ground on me. The stall speed and the midrange power of the cam makes a great combo for street duty. I never feel a dead spot. Floor it from 20mph and it pulls hard all the way through the gears.

^^^agreed...I had a TR224 and a Yank SS4k and there was NO dead spots anywhere. It didn't quite have the 5k+ I was wanting which is why I pulled it for something slightly bigger.
