Default Turbo LSX in a 2000 Saleen S281 Mustang Build...

Hey guys, picked up a 2000 Saleen from an auction in Chicago this past winter. I think the previous owner pulled an insurance scam on it or something as it was missing the engine, trans, brakes, and fuel system. Also had a bolt in cage at some point too that was also removed. But it is solid and had most of the interior. Good candidate for my LSX swap!

I then stripped it down and put in full suspension front and rear with a built 8.8. the front got coilovers, an AJE k-member, and team z a-arms. the rear got the team z relocated uppers and adjustable lowers.

Next came the bullet! An LSX built by AES out of Chicago. Its a tad bigger than the 5.3 that was in my last mustang...went a little crazy and built it with all good components so that hopefully I only have to swap bearings from here on out.

Put Weld RT-S on the back with 295 Mickeys, the front got the weldstars from my old stang.

Behind the motor I put a mildly built 4L80e with a shift kit new clutches. Hope it holds up. I also had to make my own trans mount.

The top half of the motor got a set of LS3 6 bolt MAST heads. These things are gorgeous. Almost too nice to button up. I wish they made clear intake manifolds so that you could see inside them

Here is the turbo kit partially installed. I was hoping the TC76 pipes from my old kit would work with my new precision T4, but the exhaust housing is a little too big. its gotta be tweaked a tad. I am also using ceramic coated truck manifolds with v-bands welded to them.

My intercooler pipes are being extended slightly as well to accomodate the different mounting of the IC vs. the foxbody.

More updates as they happen. Hoping to have the pipes tweaked by this monday and then get to wiring. After that all thats left is to plumb the fuel lines and extend brake lines from the passenger side front to the master cyl as I deleted the ABS unit from up front to make room for the turbo.

Put in a custom radiator that I designed myself. It fits where the stock a/c condensor sits. tucks up perfectly under the core support and gives me 3 additional inches of room behind the radiator. I also converted it to -16AN fittings instead of regular hoses for easier routing and so i never have to worry about blowing a hose at 160mph

here are some more pics of the heads, side by side with some LSA's...pretty much LS3's

Not sure on the engine size but with those heads I'm sure a T4 setup is going to be holding you back regardless of size.

Its amazing how a good aftermarket Head makes a factory head look like a toy.

yeah i was worried about excessive backpressure fom too much motor and head, so I am running a tial v44 off of each manifold. Hopefully thatll keep the backpressure bled off enough

Pt88? You should go with a t6 if that is a 400+ci motor.

Agreed.

If your stuck with a T4 get the largest exhaust housing they make.

Just one question on backpressure. If backpressure is such an issue with a T4 on a larger displacement motor, why wouldnt my having 2 tial v44 wastegates fix the issue? I cant see how backpressure could be a problem once both of the wastegates open. The extra wastegate will outflow the difference in area between a T4 and T6 flange
