do you have to be an expert to do this? or can i just watch some instructional video and follow along? i heard the labor to install these things is north of $500 not including parts, so i assume it involves a lot of work?

It is 10-11 hours per the GM spec. There are a few who have done it on there own.

I plan on doing my own when it is time (maybe early next year).

I did one on a Geo Metro convertible, which is much smaller, but it was easy.

It is actually very easy, just very time consuming. I just replaced my top and rear skirt a few months ago and i didn't have a instructional video or help of any kind. As with any project label things and take plenty of pics during disassembly. You'll be fine.

Yes, it does involve a lot of work. Hours and hours, and that is by a professional! If you want a proper 'like new' look, pay for it. Just like paint, nothing looks worse than a 'half ass' job.

Paid to swap my tan top to black, I bought the new top and my shop charged my $500 to do the top swap.
