Default What year 4.8 or 5.3?

Is one year better then the other. I did alot of searches but never really found the answer. I found some cheap 4.8s by me with low miles but thought i would ask here first to see what year is better. thanks

The 2005 up motors have better rods dont they? Are the better rods in both the 4.8 and the 5.3?

found a decent price on some 4.8 2005 and up. Just worried about it being a 24 tooth wheel. I guess I could always take the crank sensor out and try to tell if its a 58 or not.

Vettes got the 58 tooth wheel on some LS2's during model year 2006. I don't think anything else got the 58 tooth wheel before that.

If the crank sensor is behind the intake, it is for sure a 24x motor.

I think skinnies is pushing an l33 really hard.....

If the crank sensor is behind the intake, it is not an LS motor. The crank sensor is located near the starter.

Well I'm about to be pushing a 2005 LM7 to its max with a PT7875 soon in my buddy's project car. We used ARP head studs, ARP 2000 rod bolts, LS9 head gaskets, a GT2-3 cam and Patriot dual springs. Motor is going into car this weekend and we are running E85. I'll update when we start tuning.

So do later engines really have better rods or heads or is there any real difference between different year 5.3s and 4.8s?
Is there any advantage to the later model 58 tooth setups when you're running a turbo?
Thanks
Jarhead

58 tooth only matters as far as the computer... it has to be run with the correct computer. supposedly the 58 tooth has better control of timing as it is a higher resolution signal. nothing your going to notice

as far as the rods they look bigger, but i havnt really seen too much info that shows that the 05 up are really superior or more importantly that the 04 down are really weak. i bought a 2000 5.3 that im going push close to 600 horsepower and see if it lives.
