To save the rest of you a little searching this is the Comp 502 cam.

IMO put 1.6s on it with 918 beehives.

Too small for my taste. If I had that cam, I'd do 1.7rrs.

Personally I think a cam swap, parts, tune, etc. is too much money and hassle to settle for such a baby cam.

"Ported heads" and "502" shouldn't be in the same sentence.

The stock heads are more than enough for that cam. I'm not so sure that the hassle and expense of porting the stock heads would be worth it. If you're doing cam AND heads why not use a more aggressive cam profile to USE the extra potential of the heads?

Maybe some people want to keep stock like drive-ability. And porting heads is worth it with a stock cam... I'm sure he would see 30+rwhp gains with a mild set of heads and that cam. I never understood why people thing ported heads aren't worth it with a mild cam. The better the heads you have, the less cam you need to make the same power.

Agreed. I did heads alone and picked up a massive amount of power before installing a cam. The LPE 211/219 cam and their ported heads are well worth the performance gains.

Ported heads and the crane 227 was my favorite combo to date. If I wasn't done dumping $$ into my money pit I would put a similar cam back in.

Absolutely. There should be a return form in the box that you simply fill out and return.
And if you just want a cruiser and don't care about 1/4mi times then go with ported heads by someone like LE or even a local shop and a CC306 or equivalent cam. if you want the most out of your money for guaranteed performance results then go with AI or GTP.

And will the stock push rods and rockers work with the 306 or 503?

You'll have to measure for pushrod length with a checking tool, and the stock rockers will work fine, but it is usually a given to upgrade to a full roller rocker when doing a cam install. IMO, they are a necessity.

If you can't afford new pushrods for $50 or rockers for as little as $200 (less if used) perhaps a cam install isn't for you yet.

Have you considered the cost of tuning as well? How about the timing chain and sprockets? What about head gaskets? Seems like you're not sure of what you're getting yourself into. May I suggest doing a bit more research before you make any more purchases?
