Ok got a request to do a write up on the 383 stroker i built in the 97 Z71 I had, Unfortunately the ex found a hidden layed over steel fencepost that wedged itself between the axle and the oil filter and continued to drive it.... Got home and its my fault "your pos truck is makin a funny noise" i walk out its dark pop the hood dont see anythin turn the key and hit the starter to hear griiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnddddddd scratch scratch  well out it comes thankfully nothing came loose 1,2,and 3 main bearings are almost non existant as well as 1-4 connecting rods.. rods are shot cam bearings are shot etc but it didnt get into the main caps or do anything to the block so took it to a local machine shop and ask for a quote and jokingly he says "dollar a cube" and sure enough 350 cheby 350 bucks to have her punched .030 over now the list
Machine work $350
SCAT 383 crank $250+ shipping
Sealed power 9.0-1 pistons 0.030 over, Perfect circle rings $265
Recon 5.7 connecting rods $105
Clevite 77 Rod and main bearings $65
Clevite 77 Cam bearings $30
Fel Pro Gasket kit $200 :eyes:
Valve Seals $12 Grinding compound $5 Porting and valve job 3 cases of beer:D
New set of valve springs i had in the shop :D
Cloyes Timing chain $55
Edelbrock cam flat hyd .434/.444 206/212 on 112 deg seperation with lifters $155
Total Right close to $1500 Discrepency is in the quality of the beer :eyes:
Re used all other stock components intake, exh manifolds accessory drives ignition etc. Oh i did upgrade to a 454 80mm throttle body for $25 at a salvage yard And a set of shiny aluminum valve covers for $60  New belt, plugs etc which total was about $1750... Not bad considering my quote for a stock GM Vortec long block was $1500... Extra $250 for some extra cubes... components i know what were.... and plus i know i put it together right :eyes: and ended up bein pretty stout.. It cooked the tranny behind it 3 times lol mostly due to assembly error... idiot at the tranny shop took a D A sander to the seperator plate causing pressure drops and crosses between passages  But with the cam i chose with everything else i would believe i had an honest 330-350 at the wheels which considering $250 upgrade from a stocker for an extra honest 100 hp isnt bad... Hope this helps anyone lookin to build one... Id do it again in a heartbeat... Kinda wantin to do it to my new one now ;)
