Canadian Members - Emission testing

Hello all, just a question about E-test.

Car is a '98 TA, Ls1, 330,000km. Currently have OBX-R headers, and off road Y pipe.

Car is a bolt on car (FAST intake, Headers, Lid etc, also has been tuned by Arun).

What cats would be best to get me a pass out of this thing, I have been looking and found Magnaflow Bullets for around $125.00 each, and then Ive found E.M cats through a supplier at work here for $50.00 each, Id rather spend a little more and get a pass then dick around with garbage parts.

Any insight?

I run off the shelf magnaflow's and passed with a 0.612 lift 230/230 cam. A good tune should pass.

anybody run the SLP High Flow Cats? I desperately trying to get mine to pass, does adding cats affect the tune in any way?

I have SLP high flows..I would stay away if I was you if you want to pass emissions. I have a decent tune, I think I may run a little rich but I have a hard time passing every time. I fail the drive portion but idling is fine

:jest: Ha I just failed the drive section of the E-test too with the SLP high flows ! did you end up replacing them ???

How bad were your numbers. Can you post your etest results. Maybe Methyl Hydrate may work for you but we need to know your numbers first.

Not out by much but I`ve done some research and I guess the SLP hi flow cats can`t filter out the exhaust so . . .I`m looking into some heavy metal Magnaflows 3x8.75 should do the trick right ??

Seeing your results, there is no doubt Methyl Hydrate will work for you.
Just put a jug (about 4L) of Methyl Hydrate to a 1/4 tank of gas and go for your etest again.

A fail on the drive part just requires a bit of a tune adjustment, its so low a bit of fuel reduction for that rpm range and load will pass.

Thanks FrankieD , I might try the Methyl Hydrate I guess its ok for our engines ?
But I might go for a more permanent soloution and buy some Magnaflows I was looking at PN # 59559 3x9.75 should fit right ??

Methyl Hydrate should not cause any harm as you will only be using it for a very short time, just to pass the etest. Just remember to fill up as soon as you finish the etest to dilute the gas back to more normal levels. Try and fill back up with Shell 91 as it does not have 10% Methanol already added as other gas brands do.This will help even more to dilute the gas back to normal.
The magnaflow 3x9.75 should fit.
