Are 6 speed GTOs more desired or the automatics? I have seen A LOT of automatic GTOs and some 6 speeds. Are the 6 speeds more expensive or the autos? which one is more desired?
It would also help if someone who had a GTO would respond.

It's personal preference. You'll always have more fun and better gas milage with a standard. I was actually looking for an auto (since it's my daily driver), but found this M6 and couldn't turn it down!

Ive drivin both Auto and Manual ls1 and ls2 and I would do manual in either hands down. Lot more fun imo, but thats subjective. Manual seem to be more sought after and rarer. When I was searching I found more autos and they seemed to be priced lower even when taking mileage and year into consideration.

I had a 05 GTO with a 6 spd. Now I have a GXP with a 6 spd. In the GTO, I believe they made more manuals than autos but you would have to go look up the stats at LS1GTO.com.
With the GTO's the manuals offer two more gears since the autos were only a 4 spd. You will definitely get better mileage. When I bought mine since I had the manual I didn't pay the gaz guzzler tax, the auto's had one on it.

It's all in what you want. I love my auto. But I drag race it and find that it tends to perform better than 6 speeds at the track. Most 6 speeds I've seen either spin or wheel hop on take off at the strip. Autos are way more launch friendly and consistant

Based on the design of the T56 shifter used in the GTO, I would have to disagree with you. It almost seems like they said "We have the T56 in there. Crap, now how do we get the shifter in there?" But the GTO is fun to drive with a stick. Personally I love my '05 and I am glad I bought a straight gear. It is based on the preference of the owner I would say, and what they like to drive on the street or track. I have another car to go fast at the dragstrip with an automatic so I have both covered.

I go with the consensus a stick. It really is fun to drive. Plus I feel more in control handling gear change myself. Downshifting to second is a blast because who ever is cruising next to you has no way of knowing until you let the clutch go and run up the RPM's. Good times.

Went with the M6 in mine, wasn't much of an argument here though. More fun to drive and since I do 100+ miles round trip to work every day, I still get 21+mpg average with the mods in my Sig and have fun doing it.

I've driven both auto and M6, and i've owned an 04 M6 and now an 05 M6... Unless you're going to make often trips to the strip and want to put down consistant numbers go with the A4. If you just want to have a blast driving it and enjoy being in control of what gear you want to be in... Go with the M6! But you can't go wrong with a GTO either way, this car is just phenominal.
