i was at the power tout this year and i had a vette pass us and it had the most bad *** high pitched ear peircing scream i ever heard but at the stop light it was rather mellow with a little rumble, he was not boosted,
does anyone have an idea what exhuast he could have been running,
I am looking for a different sound that is not the normal flow master or magnaflow,(nothing wrong with that)
I am just building a 63 nova 4 door that will retain the original surface rusted outside and have a lh6 cammed in it just to be a little differnt

the higher pitched tone is probably due to running a 3" X pipe Vs. the standard H pipe. It mixes the two sides better and almost sounds like a V-12 engine.

Nope, I have had an X pipe and it sounded nothing like a v12, then changed it to an H pipe and still no v12

Corsa used to have a titanium system for the C5s that was unusually high-pitched and sounded very Ferrari-ish

I heard a C5 Z06 that had what looked like the Borla Stinger setup. Had a pretty high pitch. Not flat plane high, but higher than what you usually hear.

I meant camaro, but I don't see how they can sound too much different, same drivetrain and all. If you were able to fit an exact vette exhaust on a camaro, wouldn't it sound just like a vette?

From a c5Z owner, I would guess it was probably the stock titanium exhaust. When at idle it's really mellow, but at WOT it makes a great racecar pitch. Personally i took it off in favor of borla stingers for mine tho

Yes same engine and exhaust is going to sound the same, but corvettes have a completely different exhaust system than ours as the mufflers are mounted transversely. Same way that an fbody with TDs with bullets vs TDs with single chambers vs traditional catback cars are all going to sound different.

To the OP, yes C5 and C6 Corvettes sound very exotic like. I love it, thats why I put GMMG on my car as it sounds as close to a Corvette as an F-body can IMO. My suggestion to get as close to that sound as possible with your car is LT headers, 3" x pipe and some form of bullet muffler but don't dump the exhaust after the mufflers, run it to the rear of the car. My bullet of choice would be the Madhammer chambered muffler. I can't post a link as its non sponsor info, just google.

When I switched from stock exhaust manifolds and H pipe (stock) to American racing headers and their X pipe the sound changed a lot. It wasn't much louder (still using factory mufflers) but the tone changed. It is like you can hear the left bank coming from the left side, then, slightly after that it is coming out the right side. Same for the right bank, and it "sounds" like it is a V-12 almost. It is certainly different than old school V8 chevy sound.

X-pipes will heighten the pitch over an H-pipe. The first X-pipe to show up in the Cup Series was on a Morgan-McLure Chevy in 1994. The exhaust pitch was so mouch different it was news worthy.

Ati made a 180* header for the vette years ago. It's not in production now but maybe he has one of the early ones? If you don't know what I'm talking about YouTube 180 degree headers and watch the video of the corvette...

Don't 180 degree haeaders require a crossover too separate the side by side exhaust pulses of the SBC? Which is why they are very seldom seen in a street application. I addition, the change in firing order would have solved the issue on LS series vehicles, correct? The new R07 runs and LS firing order if I am not mistaken.

Yea they do. I was only mentioning something he may have heard. I don't know if it would be possible in his situation or not. If he's having custom headers made then why not go all out. Maybe an off the shelf set of regular headers will fit his conversion but it's an idea if he has them custom made.

Also, I have no idea what you mean by issues the ls engine series had? The firing order is just fine as far as internal engine goes, but when you get into exhaust scavenging using the 180 degree pattern greatly improves scavenging and as a bonus you get the great sound.

mistake on my part. I was thinking just amout the siamesed exhaust ports and firing order. I forgot that a 90* crank will always have that firing difference compared to a flat plane crank. Had a dumb moment.
