Default track time with turbo 5.3 air bag nova

well i have had the setup in the car for about a year now. it has far exceed my expectations so far no leaks not maintenance it just runs!

i finally decided to take it for a beat down at the track the other night. i kept the boost low all night because the car doesn't have enough gear to go much faster then 120 in 3rd.

the first pass was on street tires
8.0psi
13.1@115 leaving off idle and just matting it and spinning peddling till i was tired!

second pass i put the slicks on a 26x8.5r15 mt
12.2@112 leaving at like 2k no boost.

third pass stalling the car i accidentally pushed the car out of the lights and red lit no time

fourth pass
8.0 pounds foot braking the car to 3600 leaving on 3.8 pounds.
11.57@117 1.72 60ft
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faqum...ature=youtu.be

i am very pleased with the results being the car was on low boost and was popping off the limiter going thru the traps at 6300rpm. also this car is totally airbag'd.

Nice runs...I wonder how far you'll be able to get the short times down with air bags?

I want to know what it weighs too...Who built your 80e and what's the converters rated stall speed?

The car is ladderbared which helps a ton with drive traction.
The trans is out of the junk yard with a transgo kit and a 10" 3400 stall converter. These passes were without the converter locked up.

10's would be awesome, I'm sure if it weighs anything at or south of 4000#'s you'll be on target with a high 1.5x 60' maybe low 1.60 60' if the air is good.

BTW if you were able to footbrake stall to 3600 that converter is not a 3400 fwiw.

Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is there it's a 3400 stall and it can be pushed harder the more boost it makes for some reason

congrats man. thats pretty fast for a heavy nova.

boost is gonna make more torque, and more torque is gonna raise the stall speed of the converter. eg, my torque converter will stall on the transbrake to 3200rpms, then it will sit there for about 2 secs then start building boost then go to about 3500, sit there a little longer. once boost gets to abt 5psi, it will start climbing REAL quick to about 4500rpms where I leave.

btw, your build was motivation for probably more builds than you'll probably ever really know

You know sitting on the transbrake that long is really really not good for your fluid life. I hope you have a tranny temp gauge to the guy that said he sits on his trans brake for over 3 seconds because if not I'd be willing to bet it's 220+ at the end of a run if your on the t brake that long.

Like I said if he got to 3600rpm on the FOOTbrake it's not a 3400 stall no matter how much boost he is running. Now if he got to 3600 on the trans brake after 2-3 seconds as boost rises higher and higher and it was supposed to be a 3400 I could beleive that, that is on the trans brake. On the footbrake is a whole different story.

My car has no transbrake just a 3400k stall converter@500ftlbs of tq if the car makes more then 500ftlbs I would think I would stall a bit higher..

I sat for a little bit on the converter and the trans temps were like 179 after the pass

Nice run. You should be in the tens on higher boost pretty easily. My very similiar setup runs 10.70 on 14psi and 10.45 on 17psi launching at 2000rpm.

well i went back to the track yesterday for the last day the track is open for the year..

first pass out was junk using the two step and not having it setup right the car went 11.70

second pass on 8lbs the car went 11.45 with a better 1.7560ft
i spoke with my buddy he said i gotta work harder on the launch so i turned the boost up to 11psi and the car went 11.32@120 with a 1.68 60ft i was pretty happy. so figured lets go ***** out and run it on high boost and see what we get and the boost controller wasn't happy and went into over boost and i lost the last pass.. there is always next year for ten's
