Hey guys im going to be swapping a gen 1 sbc into my 95 z28.
It's a t56 car and i need to know what i need to get it to work. I read that all i need is an aftermarket flywheel but im not sure.

Anyone know?

As for the flywheel I wouldnt know BUT. The lt1 block is basically the same as the early sbc block on the outside so Id assume that a clutch for either would work and it should bolt right up. Id vote try it and tell us.

Im also curious if there is a trick since Ill be doing this eventually, maybe.

I have seen a few different conversions. 1 is a .200 thicker flywheel and others are physical adapters. I feel you need the thicker adapter as everything else is there. Your really not converting anything. Make sure you get a pilot bearing in the crank and the correct 1 or 2 piece seal flywheel. As mentioned identical other wise

i did a build that was almost the same. i just put it in a third gen camaro.

i used a block from a 79 chevy truck. and used a t-56 out of i believe it was a 95 camaro. i used a regular lt1 style clutch. and i had to use a ram flywheel that was made to work with the 2 piece rear main seal and a regular lt1 clutch. its ram part# 2555. you can buy it out of summit, jegs, or lm performance

Thank you for that part number! Ive been searcing the internet for 4 hours trying to find the correct parts to use my t56 with a gen I or II motor. Im guessing they make one for a big block also? Im thinking about replacing the 350 in my 70 camaro with a 454 and using the t56.

yea, i ended up having to call ram to see if they had something to work. but its held up real well. i haven't had any problems with it so far. i'm running a stage 3 hays clutch with it. its behind a 500 hp 383 with alot of torque and seems pretty solid. its a for fun weekend car, so it only has probably about 8,000 miles. but they are definately hard miles. haha.

Glad to hear that it's working out for you! I know I could throw an auto behind a big block but everyone does that. I think the 6 speed swap would be fun and different.
