Red face what heads do i have

I'm getting ready to take my car in for a complete top end replacement and looking at my heads I am wanting to know exactly what heads i have. I bought these new from here or ebay i don't remember. The heads have 799 on them but nowhere on the head can I find a GM brand mark or logo. there are some numbers etched into each head. Any help would be Great!!

799s are basically 243 heads. They came on newer trucks. They would benefit very well from an A.I. CNC job or T.E.A CNC

Should there be some type of identification on them somewhere?

There should be an 8 digit part number around the rocker holes, 799 being the last 3 of that part number.

Thanx for the reply. Here are 2 photos of my heads. There is no GM logo and where the 1256 should be is the numbers I170 and a date clock of some sort is where the remaining digits would be.

Well its a 799 head, it says so right on the corner ridge in the first picture. You can confirm this by noticing the exhaust ports are D shaped and not O shaped like regular Gen III heads. These flow better then standard LS1 and 5.3 heads. These did come on 5.3s though towards the later years. They are generally referred to as an LS6 head because they are identical castings to the famed 243s which came on ZO6 C5 vettes. 799 heads will increase compression when put on an LS1.

Thanx for the info, that is what I was thinking. I was a little concerned because i did not see on the head anywhere a GM logo or a GM part number.

Lots of good info here about 799 heads. The 799/243 casting is the best factory casting that came on Gen 3 engines. When ported, they are even better.

Right and wrong, same casting as ls6 heads(243s) but they do not have sodium filled valves like true ls6 243 heads. They are identical heads to the ls2 243s.

Right, I was trying not to be too too technical here....243 was a slightly smoother casting too I believe.
