Default Slicks overkill?

When are they? And what about on a stock 10 bolt?

I'm a convert from ET streets to drag radials (1.52 60's with ETs, 1.43s with DRs). Never again will I deal with them, the tubes, or the instability, especially on a street-driven car.

A stock 10-bolt won't like either of them, but a stalled auto is generally more forgiving.

OP is your car a m6 or a4, m6 on slicks with a 10 bolt = kaboom! With an a4 the 10 bolt will last a little longer I guess, I have an S60 in my car so I never worry about kaboom.

They are overkill if a drag radial will hook you.

You would be better of with a slick VS a DR on a 10bolt IF the DR hooks. The softer side wall cushions the blow.

IMO, slicks = racecar. There are guys going deep single digits in 4th gens on 275 radials. If it's not hooking, buy some suspension

I will disagree with Joe, I have gotten VERy lucky and believe GOD touched my car before I got it. Stock 10 bolt with Slicks and Very solid 1.40-1.43 short times and never once had a issue. It had well over 50 passes on it and not one issue. BUt then again my other stock 10 bolt blew up with just a stall, headers, xhaust and ls1 lid. So to each is own and the majority of the time they all fail anyway. But then again, I love drag radials and really ever want to mess with slicks again

I run MT dr's, have used 275/15's and now just a set of 255/16's, I get plenty of traction with either. The added benefit of being able to drive to the track safely with the wheels & tires already installed are well worth it to me. I wouldnt even consider running slicks even if I was making way more hp, unless it was a track only car.

I gotta agree with greg, pretty rad for just a street prep car, if you were race preped well that's one thing but for street prep......well using slicks is like using an atom bomb to kill a fly, or tripple wraping on a ho, way overkill, just sayin

Expect the same at the track as long as there is no asphalt showing on the launch pad. I've been able to consistently cut between 1.55 and 1.60 60' times without issue AND my car is completely street prepped.

Manual cars seem to favor slicks, autos a radial. This is not the rule though. Personally I have no desire to run a slick again. Not fun on the street and a radial hooks just as well if not better for me.
