Default wtf is going on???

Alrighty, old best before my headers is 13.64 @ 103.x, so now I've got jet hot long tubes, custom catted 3 inch y, the BMR throttle body bypass kit (call it a waste of money, whatever, $15 is going to break me), and today i replaced my plugs and wires with ngk tr55s and msd 8.5s. I gapped the ngks at .60.
So anywho, my best time of the night is 13.7 at 102. And it just got worse...13.8 or so. I spun a bit, not not enough to kill my times, i don't think.

I talked to a couple F-body guys there, including one guy who tunes them and grinds cams for a shop. he said I should gap the plugs at .50, and that would help a lot, but could that really count for several tenths...? I mean, my goal was 13.3s, which i thought is pretty reasonable for headers and y-pipe...i dunno, but someone help me before i sell my car and get a honda.

eh, i'm not sure that gap is the problem. .060 is the factory gap...

Maybe the car is just in need of a tune. It might be rejecting the headers.

Some people have problems like the car running too rich/lean after they put long tubes on. Just check out the external mods forum. You might even want to post this over there.

Yup. Sucks huh? Don't worry though, with a tune you'll be very pleased

It makes me laugh every time somebody comes on here and says "I'm changing this or that intake or exhaust- do I need a tune?" "I'm getting heads / cam done - do I need a tune?" The answer is simple - anything that will change your air / fuel systems needs a tune to take full advantage of. At worst you probably won't get full benefit of the change - and as mentioned above - you can make it worse.

Your situtation sounds fimilar, even though for me it was 13.5 @ 103. With the TC I hit 13.2 @ 103 (street tires and a 1.95 60), added a LS6 intake and gained nothing, no mph, no ET, nothing. According to the handheld I was getting 3-4° of knock. I did everything to fix it, even went full rich with the Predator. Nothing worked, I read about the oil blow-by from the PCV on 98-00 cars causing carbon build-up and knock. So I rigged a catch can and next time at the Jiffy Lube I let them run the fuel system cleaner through it. It blow out a good bit a smoke but I didn't think it would make a difference, but what the hell. Next time at the track, NO changes to the car, 12.8 @ 106.7 on the same 1.95 60; and NO more knock. 4 tenths and almost 4 mph gained by eliminating knock.

Just something to think about. Most `99s I've seen have the blow-by problem when checked. The 4° lost to knock maybe killing your gains with headers.
