Re: F**K! Broke an oil pan bolt
Whoops.......
I too was a victim of the broken "oil pan bolt" syndrome. That bolt is not an oil pan bolt per say in that it threads into the rear cover at 106" lbs., not 18 ft.lbs. Some folks just leave it and hope for the best.
I nutted up and dropped the trans, and fixed it proper. The bolt is there for a reason......
Do a search on "oil pan bolt" and have a look.

Re: F**K! Broke an oil pan bolt
Is this the long bolt that comes from the bottom or the short that comes from the rear (through the bell housing)?
If it’s the long bolt, join the club. It’s a torque-to-yield bolt so once it’s been used; you need to get rid of it. I broke one off when I did my head/cam swap. You can drive around without it but you should really drop the pan, pull the broken piece out, and get a new bolt. Most likely it broke above the surface of the block so you will be able to just back it right out (won't need to drill).
If its the big short bolt coming through the bell housing, BY ALL MEANS FIX IT! That holds the bell housing to the block and takes a lot of abuse.

Hmm, I guess I'll try without it first. The engine is in the car and would probably have to be lifted to get to the threads and bolt remains.
