Default Header to Y question

newb question.., but we're working on my friends car and he has the same headers as I do which are the edelbrock 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8 to a 3.5" collector...We just got the pacesetter Y pipe in from Summit racing and the y pipe is a slip fit 3"...I've heard that people use a 3.5" to 3" reducer, my concern is the length of the reducer affecting the position of the Y pipe, the length of the reducer would be a few inches and the position of the Y pipe would not be from Header to Y pipe, it would be Header to reducer to Y pipe right? Does anyone have any pictures of their Y pipe with this type of set up? Or any suggestions that would be helpful in this install?
