How can I figure out if I have a manually valve bodied th350?
I bought a drive train from a mutual friend who said it was a rebuilt 406 and manual valve bodied trans. After the 406 turned out to be a stock 400 with egg shaped cylinders and smoked bearings I have my doubts about the trans.
I know I need to remove the pan and then the "valve body" itself, but I dont know anything about autos so Im sort of lost. The trans shop wants 100 to tell me whats up but I have the skill I just dont know what to look for.
If anyone can help Id really appreciate it.

Well thats kind of an open ended question because there are a few ways to have a manual vb in these units. Is this supposed to be a forward manual vb or a reverse manual vb? Is this trans running a modulator?

Well first I should say Its not in a vehicle, I bought it and never did anything with it. AND Im not exactly sure what its supposed to be, all I was told is that it was built so that you had to shift it from first second and third manually. But Im not an auto guy so I dont know what to look for.
