Default Tach quit working out of no where?

So I'm driving down the 7th st. on the way to pick up some beer and my tach just died? If there is something I can check fuse or wiring wise please help me out, is this common? The car only has 54k on it, looks like a new tach and shift light may be in its future......

Tha tach is controlled by the PCM - I don't have my manuals here, but most cluster probs are either a bad connection or a failing gauge. Inspect the connections at the PCM, check for codes, and look at the cluster to see if there is any dirt or corrosion at the connections there. Try resetting the PCM (pull the fuses a for few minutes) and do inspect the fusebox for debris and corrosion.

The tach wire is the White wire out of the 10 pin on the front part of the computer. The comp is located in teh back left of the engine compartment from the front of the car. Hope this helps.

Mark

EDIT: looking at your name, the 98's use a dif wire. Check www.InstallUniversity.com they give alot of pictures and info.
