well i live up by Asheville in the mountains and they dont do a visual emissions inspection up here so we dont have a problem as long as your car isnt showing a check engine light, look up nick williams I believe he tunes them in the charlotte huntersville area and can tune the codes out of your computer so the check engine light will stay off

I have had my current car in sig for 3 years with longtubes and ORY and pass everytime. As long as the light ain't on most places unless they wanna be dicks don't look. Of course I know the people at the place I go because the family has gone there for 30+ years, but that's beside the fact lol. If you have to I'm in Greensboro, just drive on up here to the shop I go to haha

AFAIK they only do a visual inspection and make sure it isn't throwing off codes...you could get the sensors tuned out probably.

I kinda want to remove my cats or at least get them gutted...I'm in NC too BTW. Anyone think I could get away with it?

Where did you get it done? I've heard there is one place in Raleigh called Carolina Auto Masters, then heard a lot of bad things about the guy who worked there, so decided to avoid it.

i live in concord NC and i had a shop in kannapolis custom make my true dual X pipe system and he said if the headers come down past where the cats would be "factory", then he doesnt have to reinstall the cats. my cats r gone and it will pass inspection

BTW it only cost me $371.45 for the system, i installed headers myself and already had the mufflers. i would have cost $425 if i bought there mufflers

I'm in Kernersville and pass all day. I've got some gutted cheap thunderbolt ceramic hi flows on mine. It'll pass a visual all day, unless they really look.

dont post shop names. if the epa sees this they might send out a bait car to those shops and shut them down, or a hefty fine...

^there's a chance, pm works best.

The place that does mine told me they had been hit hard in the last 6 months over almost everything. I've been in there 3 times a year for the last 5 years, they know me by name. I've taken my Silverado there for the last four years with 35% legal tint on the front windows only. They've never checked it until this year. The guy told me it was a $600 violation for not checking everything.

They also checked the same tint on my Camaro, but were so interested in the cam size they never even looked under it. I even mentioned the rich tune....he responded "yeah, I can smell it's rich." I put cats on the car for a few weeks, it completely got rid of the gas smell. It was obvious I didn't have cats. Gotta love car guys.

There's several places in this area, but that's not gonna help you any. Get hooked up with someone who's been in the area all their life and they can point you in the right direction.

FYI that's completely wrong. IF the cats are either removed or moved from their original location then its not legal if your going by the inspection laws. Now that doesn't mean that some shops won't overlook it, but as far as legal vs. illegal if you take a car with the cats removed to a shop that properly performs the inspection it will fail.
