Every one I have known has screwed on and off (like a bottle cap). To loosen it, twist it counter clockwise.

Ahh I just tried that... maybe I'll try it again because it has been sitting out in the sun and the leather was extremely hot and slippery and I could not get a good grip at all. If thats the case and that's all I needed to do, thanks.

I've heard they have loctite on them from the factory, but I'm entirely sure how true this is.

Yup, it's on real good with some stickum or anti vibe ****.
Just grab that thing and put one hell of a twist on it.
Counter clockwise.
It should break loose.

Its already been said, but the only thing to do is twist. I know it can be on very tight, because I got a new shift know today. I had the factory Hurst T-Handle, and I had to get a hammer and whack it after spending half an hour trying to twist. If it's original, you will probably have a very tuff time, but it will come off.

If you don't care about the current ****, try a pair channel locks or vise grips.

Use a leather belt instead of the vise grips/ channel locks

Take some rubber wrap around it and then use vice grips. Turn it to then left.
