Default Calling those with dumped Y pipes

I have been thinking about running a single chamber Flowmaster directly off the Y pipe with a turn down , I was wondering how bad the interior drone would be with this, ( I have a 2 year old that sometimes rides w me) and will it fit with out adding any more pipe or beating anything in? I currently have BBK longtubes with there Y pipe. I have a TSP Rumbler cat back on it now, and I hate the sound. i have searched and read about 90% of the threads I came up with, but no one has touched on the drone or if the pipe had to be extended or not.

if your going to handle all the noise and clearance with the 1 chamber you might as well upgrade to duals dumped before the axle. best thing about a Y pipe is that its easy to go over axle lol but to each there own. and btw isnt the BBK 2.5 " y? id get a flowmaster merge too.

The BBK is 2.5" for each pipe off the primary, but the merge is 3"

true, my bad.

the single chamber will drone pretty bad OP. how about adding it instead of the rumbler resonator? or add a nice bullet muffler in there. it will sound better all the way to the back.

I also have BBK's and run a LM2, very little rasp and no noticable drone when cruising in high gear.

Go with a Magnaflow #12867, it has a 5" dia. case. and won't be very loud (light throttle or cruising). It'll only require minor clearancing of the underbody sheet metal to tuck up closer the the body.

Or even swap the resonator on the Rumbler for a Borla XR-1......

I'm wanting to do the same thing with the same headers/y pipe. I'm torn between the magnaflow and xr-1. I'm just concerned they're both going to be ridiculously loud in a gutted car...

B-I-N-G-O!, this would probably be the most effective, and easiest to do.

FYI, a Magnaflow bullet muffler would work just as good, but cost around $30 less if you're trying to minimize cost.

Going with a FM merger will be worth it, if he goes with a larger exit size on the merger (3.5",4"), but if he stays with a 3" exit on the merger there's not much gain to be had by changing mergers. BTW, the 3" merger exit is a restriction way before the two 2.5" pipe are.

yep, but wont the FM merge cut some rasp? ive heard they do due to its smooth design but i dont know. i just ordered my 3.5" i was going with 4 but i won the 3.5" for 10$ cant wait to install it with a 3.5" all the way to the back

Yeah, it'll cut some rasp but that depends on how good the current Y-pipe merger is. BTW, killer deal on the 3.5" merger.

thanks for the replies guys, the whole reason for the dump was because I did not want to have to take the car any where to get work done. i guess I will just save up and bite the bullet, the only thing that sucks is the exhaust shops around here blow, since I don't have cats on the car nobody wants to touch it. I don't mind the rasp so the fm merge is out, I would love to do a bigger merge but then I would have to redo the exhaust all the way back, no? The Rumbler is just way to quiet! I will check out the x-r1 as well, is it straight through or chambered? I tend to like the sound of chambered stuff more.

Swap out the bullet muffler for a straight pipe and put a chambered muffler, or two out back.

The single chamber flow is loud, mean, nasty, drones, and just outright awesome. My LT/ORY setup goes out the back and when you are cruising, you can definetly hear it, but not like hurt your ears loud (unless you want it to be).

I think the 2 year old will love it, they will also hate riding in Mommy's boring car/van/truck, when daddy has a racecar!

Lol thanks for the reply Timmy, it's bad enough as it is with him and the bird, he never wants to ride in any of the other cars..Matter of fact, when he gets into my daily driver or my girls car he calls them "slow car". I am going to bite the bullet and have a shop weld the FM in place.

Don't weld it in! Use a band clamp-if you hate it, just take it off! You will love it if you like a nice, loud, deep tone.
