First two o2 sensors

First two o2 sensors Ive got a question about the first two o2 sensors, I've got a 2000 chevy 5.3l swapped into a 79 chevy 4x4.
I sent off my ECM to be flashed to have the rears removed, fronts stay. So with that said, they work when plugged in i think.. Lol when I unplug them, I am not getting a check engine light, shouldnt I be getting one?
This had me wondering if it was even seeing they weren't there or what it would take to get the engine light from these o2s
