Stereo & Electronics - Eclipse XA5000 and DEH-P4200UB, anyone heard or own one of these?

There's a local guy that's selling a used XA5000 (http://www.amazon.com/Eclipse-XA5000-Class-Power-Amplifier/dp/B001BKXN1Q/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t) and a used Pioneer DEH-P4200UB (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-apRREnbzgcc/p_130P4200UB/Pioneer-DEH-P4200UB.html) both for $200.

Anyone have any experience with this amp or HU?

I'll be running a set of HD-6M DVC's and Focal 165VB's (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-nVmJI7Wnduv/s_091165VB/Focal-Polyglass-165-VB.html). In the future I'll add some 4" component set for the hatch as right now i've blown my budget completely out of the water! :punch:

One thing about the amp is that it doesn't have a remote bass knob. I always find myself adjusting the subs from genre to genre of music. I know it can be done on the HU but it's just not as quick as with the bass knob.

The things i don't like about the deck is the multi-way knob and the screen is smaller than normal with a very tiny clock.

Any other opinions?

i have had the Eclipse XA5000 for a few years. never had an issue with it. currently powers 4 Boston Acoustics components and a 10" BA sub. no complaints from me.

Ever find yourself wishing you had a remote bass knob?

Really? I assume it's just a potentiometer. But where do they hook up to amps that don't normally include one?

Time for more research i guess ;)

Derp! Find my answer on google about the bass control knob.

I think I may buy just the amp and keep looking for a more suitable HU the clunky mult-knob, small screen and even small clock are a big turnoff.

The Eclipse XA series is very good, and being Class D (of the full-range variety), it is quite efficient and relatively cool running compared to Class A/B amps. Think about 80% efficient instead of 50-60% efficient. In fact, pretty much all Eclipse amps are very good. One of my backup amps is an old Eclipse 3620 that works great.

I'd much rather have a subwoofer output control feature on my H/U than a remote bass/gain/whatever knob from the amp.

Not sure on the Pioneer HU.

It's been discontinued. You can probably find one used for a good price on ebay or a car audio forum.

I just picked it up locally for $140! ;)
