Noob brakes on 02 Z28 advice
I have a low mile 56k '02 Z28 convertable. Got the front rotors all warped up from running Harris grade, a very twisty road near home. I am lookin for a good "bang for the buck" brake job that wont kill my bank account. love the look of the drilled/slotted sexy stuff, but am thinkin more about good blanks from napa, and Hawk, or EBC pads (sugestions welcome). Have not even had the wheels off to check it out yet, and was wondering what kind of rear parking brake is on these cars. Is it that PITA "drum in the disk" system I have seen in ford exploders, and what not? just lookin for any tricks I might find when I go in there..

am I on the right track? I drive very hard (my 1st set of tires lasted short of 8 months) like the pretty brakes, but more focussed on performance, kinda like the sleeper look too..saving up for some C5, or 6 wheels to do the CTS-V upgrade. What do you guys do to ballance the f/r braking?

Check out some of the Sponors they tend to have some good deals or just suck it up for a good set of OTC (over the counter) brakes and pads. Your still going to spend money but once you warp brakes (especially) factory, cutting them will make them warp faster and you need new units.
Been running on at the time 3ish years ago the best that Autozone had to offer and not a since issue with vibration.
And yes, it is a drum in the disk system with a piston that spreads the drum out just a bit to make it catch.

^^ Yep.. can't beat Brakemotive for the price. I have had a full set for a couple years and they are great.. https://ls1tech.com/forums/sponsor-s...ices-ever.html

Wow, went down to Napa, and they want $80 just for the front pads! So went with brakemotive, helluva deal...thought the price was a typo, or something! Thanks again guys!

For the rears it is just as easy as the fronts. Just remove the wheels, the caliper from the caliper bracket, and then the caliper bracket from the brake backing plate and pull off the rotor. Installation is opposite of removal. If I were you I would try and upgrade to some braided stainless steel lines if you haven't already. Also use DOT 4 brake fluid.
