Default 2004 GTO cracked tailshaft housing

Gave it some gas in first shifted easy into second gave it half throttle, heard a loud boom and banging around under the car.

Had enough momentum to turn onto my street and into my driveway.

Jack the car up to look under it, front rubber donut is not connected to yoke that come out tranny, rubber donut is torn from the bolts getting rippped out.

Look and the tailshaft and see about a 4-5 inch crack in the case...

Can the tailshaft housing just be replace instead of the whole transmission case ? If not ill see if i can just have it welded.

Thanks -joe-

You "can" just replace the tailhousing, but most likely if you cracked the case, you've done more damage that will just crack the new tailhousing... ymmv, but having it looked at professionally is recommended.

the crack is from the driveshaft donut coming apart, i don think there is any internal damage besides the tailshaft bearing.

You're unclear. The main case houses 1st through 4th. The tailhousing houses 5th, 6th & R.

If the tailhousing was cracked and the main case was not, yes the tailhousing can be replaced. Check endplay of the countershaft extension and shim accordingly.
