Default Advertised as a '98 Trans Am - I'm Pretty sure it's a '99?

So my brother is looking into buying this Trans Am a local guy is selling. In the online ad it's said to be a '98, and the guy has said so himself over the phone.

I ran the VIN number (2G2FV22G1X2211786) on compnine because I'm curious like that.

Vehicle: FIREBIRD 2 DR
Year: 1999
Build Date: 1998-11-25

I mean that has got to be a '99 then? I wonder why the guy thinks it's a '98...

Someone confirm that.

If there's a picture of the steering wheel, a 99 will have cheaper looking audio controls. If I can find pictures, I'll post em. Carfax says '99.

Make sure he's going off of the right VIN #, he might've messed it up writing it down or the door of the car's been replaced with one from another and he read its VIN # instead. The best one would be the number you read from the outside of the car through the windshield.

If it's still the same, you might want to pay for the extended Carfax and make sure the history matches up with the car.

Its not uncommon for people to look at the build date (its on the door) and use that as the year model

Well the VIN number is definitely right so I guess it's a '99. I tried google to see the differences in steering wheels but they pretty much look the same to me... am I blind? lol here's the interior.

Just pop the hood and look at the valve covers...if it has the parameter valve cover bolts instead of the center bolts it is a 98.
