Small Block & Big Block Chevy Specific - How hard would it be to stuff this engine in my 1998 F-Body.......

Call me nuts, but the price is damn reasonable I think for close to 1,000 N/A HP.
I spoke to Steve Schmidt and they said, and I quote.......It will be a perfect fit for my 1998 Trans Am................and it can take a 250 shot no problem.
I'd like to know what kind of a project this really is to do....if I choose this route. I am quite serious about it so please lets just get past that issue.......
I want A/C to be incorporated and this is a 100% street car.............no drag track visits. Yes, I just want to maybe put together a very unique, powerful show car. Less than a weekend warrior.
And I have absolutely no problem using E85. I would do what my friend did, which is plant a 500 gallon tank (I'd maybe use a 200 gallon) in his back yard to use whenever needed. He uses race gas for his badass super-charged air boat......
Who would make the Long Tube headers is something I wondered too?????

That is the same as every other BBC thread.
It's a short deck and takes all standard stuff.

You're saying it bolts right into my motor mounts, will bolt right up to my new 4L80E tranny?
And LT headers will fit right in there?

i think he's saying its a standard BBC swap...in which there are threads on this already with the information...

I know BBC's have been installed......I was wondering if this one would work, I know there's different sized BBC blocks.....
Oh well, Steve Schmidt racing does full installs and just emailed me that they can do it all................

IF you do a swap make a build thread.

Its just something me and my stepfather thought we'd look into, since the price of these BBC engines is really quite reasonable for the high level of reliability and HP they make. I was just about to start a 441ci LSx build + 200 shot. But I'm thinking I'm gonna get bored rather quick with 750-800 RWHP. There's no way a LSx "anything", at the 900+ HP level will be as reliable as an old school BBC. I mean to get 900 HP out of an LSx AND have it last a long time and have a HIGH degree of reliability......it MUST be boosted. Which will cost $20,000+ for just the engine and turbo kit.
I realize there would be some fabbing to this BBC project, thats the info I wanted to find here....just for someone to tell me its gonna cost $2,000-$3,000 in making this work.....or its gonna cost $6,000-$8,000 in fabbing and labor. $2-3,000 is no biggie.
With that 565ci and a dual stage 250 DP shot........thats 1,150 reliable BBC HP.........that sucker would be FUN.....
If this happens, Steve Schmidt will do it all....turn-key....I'm sure they'll make a nice build record with pics and videos.

If they are gonna do it all, just get him to quote you for the install $$$. If the price sounds right to your bank account go for it.

He gets that email in the morning when he checks. I told him I must have A/C also, he said no problem.
So I'll have somewhat of an estimate soon.
My question is:
How will my gauge cluster work and other items that rely on the PCM?
Also, I want my 4L80E to be computer controlled so I do not have to shift it up and down manually.

That is a pretty good price. Would go well in a bracket dragster. But Think you have to search a bunch how to get the cluster to work. I think its still going to cost $$$ to swap in and be like factory. Mite even be even with the LSX since it bolt in and just in nature be a easier to get to work with all the factory wiring harness.

My point was this is a standard BBC and has been done 1000's of times.
You asked if it will fit, which is yes, the details have been covered in many many threads,
which would be easier then risking us forgetting or missing something.
Good luck.

IMO I think u'd be better off with a lower comression motor. If you're not gonna race it why limit yourself to E85 if it's not readily available in your area?
You could make 700-750 hp with a 540 easily. Plus u have to think about what it will be like to cool that bitch down driving around. What size is the cam in that thing? How's it gonna idle in traffic or at a light?

I have no issues with using full-time E85. Its available in a few perfectly spaced out places around here. I'll do what my friend did and put a 300 gallon tank in his back yard, he trailers it to the gas station to fill it and uses that for his gas station since it's just a weekend warrior, like my car will be. I asked Steve Schmidt what would happen if I got stuck in a pinch and had to use some 93 octane just to drive it very casually and limp it to an E85 station or home to fill up with E85.....he didn't get back to me on that yet.
BUT....he did tell me how he would convert that 565ci engine to a 93 octane engine. But it drops it to 700 HP......and its more expensive.....simply not enough power. I can get close to that 700 HP just by rebuilding my current LSx to 441ci and getting a new top end.
Our goal is 1,200 RWHP. We were gonna do a big single turbo 408ci iron LSX. But after seeing the price on this 565 E85 engine with a 250 shot.......its got our interest going. Probably be cheaper in the end compared to the big single turbo LSX set-up......but it will be very unique to have that 585ci in my car. Plus, I am a fan of raw N/A power.
Also, they said it would cost $5,000 to make it fuel injected. It would be nice to use Nelson Racing Engines "Alien" 16 injector intake. But that is around $6,000.
NRE Alien intake....the 572ci to the right has 800 HP and is more tame that the 565ci E85 and uses 91 pump gas. Not a bad price for that engine.....
http://www.nelsonracingengines.com/engines/chevy/Fuel-Injected-Pump-Gas-Warrior.html
We'll see...still have allot of questions.

I talked to Jake Performance about the 4L80E working, that's no problem. Computer controlled.
I searched a little bit, found nothing about the factory gauge cluster.
I won't do the BBC if the gauge cluster wont work. Guess we'll go back to 408ci + FI98X single turbo.

1200 "rwhp"?

Well, after talking to people today........its settled.
402ci LSX iron block + FI98X single turbo......thats the ticket right there.....
This shop had 3 single turbo F-Body builds going on...I like it. BBC would be very cool and unique...but screw all the problems its gonna have getting everything to work and huge fabbing work........
Iron LSX at 402ci with 6 bolt heads and a cheap Hogan sheet metal intake will make 1,200 RWHP....and be quite reliable and last a long time before it needs to be rebuilt.

Good decision, all the money you would have spent changing stuff can now go to making reliable power.

Yup....might even have RED re-sleeve the iron block. He (Steve at RED) said that makes for the ultimate in strength and reliability.

Imo you should of stuck with the BBC idea. An LSX block with less cubes weighs almost as much as a BBC block. There is more fabrication work and parts in a turbo setup than a BBC swap.
