Default 92 Z28 LS1 Front Mount Build/Resto

Heres a little rundown of my car. I've had it ever since I was 16 and it was my "Dream Car". I purchased it for $3200 back in 2000 with 132,000 Miles on it. But it did have it's list of problems. At 145,000 mile rebuilt the engine (basic rebuild) few thousand miles later it was topped off with an ATI P600B Procharger. Then I blew up the engine and built a 383 stroker for it. Car sat while I went through school and then I decided to tear into it for something a little different. Pulled and sold the procharger and 383 in favor of ls1. Well now i'm board with it and decided its time for resto/ turbo build. Well heres the highlights of my build...I had to keep all creature comforts especially A/C. Also have it be 100% streetable. List of mods
-Weisco -11cc pistons
-Cam ????? Help!!
-Callies Rods
-Iron 5.3L bored to 3.905
-Stock crank
-317 heads (milled and springs)
-Home built passenger side manifold (to keep a/c)
-Truck manifold driver side w/v-band
-Turbonetics TC78
-Tial WG and BOV
-E-bay intercooler and aluminum pipes
-Notched bumper for Intercooler
-Tubular K-Member
-Ford 9" 3.25 gears
-strange axles
-4L80E with shift kit
-3000RPM stall (undecided on brand)
-BMR Extreme Tq Arm custom crossmember.
- ect ect. Ill update as I build

Please excuse how often and get things done. Due to my work schedule I can only tackle projects every 2 weeks for a week at a time, Plus I have a new baby.. So you know.

Here's the hot pipes. Driver is a Truck manifold w/ V band welded on. The passenger is a Semi Log manifold constructed out of Schedule 40 in hopes to mek it like a manifold and resist cracking. I had to make the Passenger low enough to clear the aftermarket A/C compressor and bracket and high enough to clear the Down Pipe. Heater Hose's will be a problem but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Everything will be blasted and coated with CermaKrome. The turbo sit right below the water pump centered at the front of the engine.

Here's my cross over. Its painted black because these pipes were my old Y pipe. I had very little miles on them so I figured why not?? Chopped it up and used them. Also Pics of my car getting stripped and my new racing seat lol!

Hey thanks guys. I think in the last 5 years this car has seen more time apart then on the road. I get board easy. I'll keep you updated. I'm gonna run the LS1 for a while I think. The tc78 with top out at the most extreme the LS1 will take. Then It'll be time for an upgrade. Hell and I gotta have a/c. I'm pretty sure that this is a first on the web (a/c ls1/turbo ).

Looks great so far! As far as heater hoses go, what I did was remove the nipples on the water pump then tapped for npt 90° nipples. Does the driver side mani fit? I was under the impression that the steering box was in the way, even with the flange cut off and v band welded on. I originally was going to use manifolds, the 98 fbody manifold fits on the driver side but I couldn't fine one that would work on the passenger side so I went with custom headers. Here's a link to my build, it might help you along your way.

Hey thanks. I did the same thing with my water pump because the down pipe is going to be in the way. I used a 2003(i think) Truck manifold on the driverside w/v-band welded on. Cleared the Gearbox. Its actually a few inches from it. I was gonna use a truck manifold on the passenger side but I wouldn't have a place for my down pipe and a/c compressor.

I want a 91/92 Z28 so bad. I had a 91 Z28 with the 5.7L for my first car. It had a lot of power for a 17 year old back in the day!

Wish you would have left the stock hood on there, though.

How did you find the fit of the hood? I bought an ascd ram air hood and the fit is terrible. nice build. what kind of power are you expecting?

Hey thanks, You Don't like the SS Hood? The hood needed some blocking. Hopefully it fits good. If not I'll be Pissed. I still have the stock hood but it'll need a lot of blocking (Hail Damage) I still need to think of how to lay the stripes on the hood. On sides of cowl only or like the Heritage stripes?

I love the way the hood looks, or will look when it's finally painted next spring. The fit and finish leave much to be desired currently however.

Yea there was a lot, I mean a lot of blocking done to the good. Hopefully everything else is good with the hood. Sorry forgot to asnwer your question. I'd like to see 550+ HP. Closer to 600HP would be good. Should be within the ballpark of the Turbo. Still waiting on updated on the Bigger Exhaust Housings for the TC78's

Sorry been a while on updates. Got the engine back from the machine shop, Cars still at the bodyshop. Its had all the body work done sitting in primer ready for the final blocking. Then it'll get painted in Flame Red paint. As far as the motor, I got it back from the machine shop, got it scrubbed and oiled. Checked all oil clearances, filed rings, assembled and degreed cam. Hopefully everything will start going together a little faster and I can start getting to the fun stuff. Also I'm getting ready to start powder coating some parts. I'm thinking a semi gloss black block and heads, Wrinkle black valve covers and red gloss coil brackets.

Update, Engines about done. I was messing with pushrod lengths and put a set of 7.30 that give me about .035 preload which i'm hoping is enough. If not i'll pick up some 7.325". Also the car should be done soon at the paint shop. My painter has been booked up. Here's a few pics. Also I tapped the waterpump heater core hose's so I can install some 90's to clear where my down pipe will be coming through. There capped for now.. Also got my -10 oil drain fitting welded to the pan.
