Passed and failed smog today
Just got back from the smog station and my h/c Camaro passed with flying colors, but failed because I no longer have my EGR. After the test, the guy pops my hood again and starts looking at the engine closely and tells me I have to have my EGR and that my smooth bellow and intake lid is illegal. Does anyone know a shop I can go to with out having to put a new intake manifold and EGR back on?

Talked with a state ref about this since I still have egr (2000) you need to have a matching vin and paperwork from the state ref stating you have an engine from another year and it's legal . . . plus we have those little emissions stickers on the fenders to aid smog people lol

That visual inspection BS is a PITA! If it smells clean let it ride.
Living in AZ I no longer have to deal with that with the newer cars (the 67 is registered in Cali still) but I dealt with it for decades when I lived in LA.
Anecdote: I have a 67 Camaro with a mild 454 in it. Before Cali finally exempted pre cat cars from smog I had to smog it. I had it set up like a 49-state car (PVC into the air cleaner) and it passed cleaner then my (then new) 96 Z28. BUT! It failed the f'ng visual!!!!!!!!! I got a referee to let it pass since it wasn't the original engine. Major PITA!!!!

I have a place in Vista I go to, the guy is legit but generally doesn't care about stupid little visual stuff. He does check for EGR function though, so you may want to tell him it's a 01-02 engine up front and ask him if that's ok. PM me for more info.

FWIW, you'd be less suspicious if you'd PM'd the guy instead of doing this in the open...
