Default LS6 cam in a 5.3

I got a buddy with a 5.3 and he wants to put a ls6 cam and 243 heads off of a ls2 milled .30 with long tube headers and a 3000 stall ls7 lifter ls2 timing chain and 3.73 gears. What kind of power will he be looking at with this setup?

probably low 300's RWHP I mean the 5.3's weren't rated over 300 to being with so you figure with the ls6 cam and heads he might pick up about 40 hp

lol do you know how small the 5.3 cam is? its like 190/191 ~ .460 lift. cam will wake it right up for sure. if it were me id guess 380-390 or so horsepower with ls6 intake. since the 5.3 is about 7% smaller id say it would put down APPROX that power...

edit just looking back now your probably talking @ wheels... lol i was talking crank

Yeah I meant at wheels sorry for the lack of clarification lol, but of course crank would be upper 300's then

I've been told to keep the truck intake because it flows good and for no more hp he'll get out of the ls6 intake it's not worth the trouble?

Truck intake is pretty good, but LS6 cam isn't much better than a stock LS1 cam (not sure about 5.3) until like 4500-6400...so doing one and not the other is kinda silly.

i think you could easily see 365 whp out of that setup. decent compression with those heads and an ls6 cam would make for a vehicle that would drive like stock, but should pull to 6800 (in that 5.3). i'm guessing due to the broad power curve that the car would mph much better than the whp suggests.

the truck intake is fine, even after 5k rpm. i've seen numerous people use them to 7k and gain nothing when switching to an ls6. i believe there is a mod on here, lilss or something of the like, that i believe did the swap and kept track of everything. if i recall correctly he was shifting somewhere around 6900 with the truck intake.

yea i believe the truck intake works well also, didnt know if you had any intake yet so thats why i just said ls6. i think horsepower tv actually dynoed with a truck intake and ls6 and changes were minimal as well.
