This is a tube frame race car. It actually started life as a Pontiac GTO.R, then got rebodied as a Pontiac GXP.R, then rebodied again as a Camaro. I knew that it used to be a GXP but, wasn't aware that it was also a GTO. Makes a "manufacturers championship" seem a little silly, doesn't it.:D

I know the car you're talking about that ran as a few different bodies but was all the same underneath but I think that was an entirely separate racing class.
I thought this Camaro was actually truly production car based (full cage/safety equipment of course)?

From your link
"GT cars competing in the Rolex Series can be tubed production cars or custom tube frame chassis."

At one point, the Porsche 911 was the only tub-based car. But I don't know now. The Camaro and RX8 are tube frame cars. The Koni Challenge features actual production based race cars. Stevenson Racing has Camaros in both series.
